And for many of them, AirPrint was enough. AirPrint is an excellent consumer-level technology, and its friendly user-interface and deep integration with native apps make it a good fit for many corporate use cases. Unfortunately however, the same things that make AirPrint so easy to use (Bonjour for discovery, on-device rendering) can make it difficult to get the full value from it in most enterprise environments. In particular, AirPrint requires that printers support the Bonjour protocol and that mobile devices be on the same Wi-Fi subnet as the printers they're printing to, which is often not the case in large organizations. Moreover, as a direct-to-printer technology, AirPrint by default lacks auditing tools and other security features.
IT managers quickly realized that additional capabilities are needed for AirPrint to completely fulfil its role in enterprise contexts. The Breezy Beacon fills that business need.
The Breezy Beacon is a lightweight Windows service that enables any iOS device to use the native AirPrint functionality built into the OS to print securely to any printer — AirPrint-capable or not, and no matter where the device and the printer are located on the network.
Customers report that Breezy installations are among the easiest they’ve ever seen for an enterprise product.
