[This post was written by Breezy's founding CEO, Jared Hansen.] Breezy got its start as the world's first true mobile printing app for BlackBerry. When I first started working on it, I called the project "bbprint", and it took several months to come up with a name that wasn't BlackBerry-specific.
Not only that, but the constraints imposed by BlackBerry's unique architecture, which prevented developers from actually obtaining the original binary of any attachment on the device itself, led me to develop the cloud-based model we use today. That in turn ended up leading to many other benefits: the cloud model lets us avoid the trap of trying to put drivers on mobile devices; we're able to provide better security and performance; and in the end we can support a much broader variety of printers than we could have otherwise.
So I owe a debt of gratitude to the good people at RIM, who have suffered through a sad story over the past few years and without whom Breezy might never have come to exist.
That said: it's time to pull the plug. The sun is setting on BlackBerry all over the world, including among our customers, and we can no longer justify the cost of supporting an aging platform used by an ever-dwindling number of people.
But wait, you might say. There are still lots of BlackBerry users out there! BlackBerry's still relevant, right?
No, it's not. The tweet above falls into the category of statements that, if you have to make them, are not true. You don't see the iOS, Android, or even Windows Phone marketing teams tweeting that someone said they are "still relevant".
BlackBerry's leadership team continues to put a brave face on the brutal truth, but the numbers have just fallen off a cliff and are not coming back. In fact, a recent survey of enterprise mobility leaders showed that of those who still have any BlackBerry devices, over half are planning to end BlackBerry support entirely by 2015. It's time for us to do the same.
I know this will come as a disappointment to some -- and I hate to turn away potential business by ending support for any platform, even a dying one. But focus is critical to startup execution, and I'd rather have Breezy be the best in the world at just a few things than be mediocre at a lot of things.
So effective immediately, the Breezy apps will no longer be available through BlackBerry App World. No new updates will come, and we encourage our customers still using BlackBerry to strongly consider upgrading to a more modern and durable platform.
Existing customers using BlackBerry apps are still welcome to contact support if they have any problems, but if any issues are traceable to bugs in the existing BlackBerry apps, they will not be repaired.
We are grateful to our loyal users who are still on BlackBerry, and hope they'll join us soon on iOS or Android.

To clarify, customers with the latest BES EMM platform will still be able to use that platform to manage Breezy apps on iOS and Android.
